Covid-19 resulted in long-term closures for resorts creating a huge backlog of owners unable to book their timeshare. Unfortunately, the resorts are being very unaccommodating and are still demanding maintenance fee payments even if there is no availability. As far as I’m aware, no timeshare contract protects owners against this type of event.
You have a few options, first of all, you could contact your timeshare company and ask what alternatives could be offered and if nothing is deemed to be acceptable, then maybe time to consider releasing yourself from your timeshare? (this will of course depend on what you have purchased). I have seen timeshares for sale on Ebay for as little as £1? The best options for anyone wanting out of their ownership are to relinquish or pursue a compensation claim (will depend on what you own).
